NORTHERN WAIROA OUTBREAKS.
LARGE DWELLING BURNED. [by TLLEGRATH.— COBBKSPON'DEXT.] DARGAVILLE. Sunday. A fire was discovered to-day in tho ceiling of Costollo's billiardroom at Dargaville, The flames were extinguished before any damage had been done. Another fire broke out in a cottage in Portland Street, but the brigade promptly extinguished the flames. A large dwelling, owned by Mr. Thomas Wallace, at Runwai, was totally destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Wallace and her daughters were busy cooking when smoke and then flames came from behind the range. They ran outside, and tho girls went over the paddock for the men. Their mother rushed back into the house, and must have been partly overcome with smoke, for when the men and girls arrived they were only just in t'ire to rescue her. Only a very few nil ides of furniture were saved. Mr. Wallace is a heavy loser, as there 'were no insurances.
