HIKURANGI MINE IDLE.
NO TRUCKS AVAILABLE. WQUJV CEASED YESTERDAY. The men employed on the Whangawi railway section ceased work at midnight on Thursday. As a result, the flikurangi coal mine was idle yesterday afternoon, the trucks available being sufficient only to keep the miners at work until noon. The daily output from this mine is nearly 300 tons, the greater proportion of which comes to Auckland. MEN'S LOSS OF PAY. HELP FROM SOUTH ISLAND. PROPOSAL TO RAISE FUNDS. At a largely-attended meeting of employees of the Addington railway workshops to-day the opinion was expressed that, the North Island should not be allowed to bear the whole loss of pay occasioned by the strike. It was resolved that the various railway organ' Rations in the South Island should be levied upon with the object of paying the dependants of the men a portion of the pay lost. This decision was arrived at unanimously, and the executive was invited to communicate with all South Island branches with a view to collecting the funds necessary.
AUCKLAND TRANSPORT WORKERSSTRIKE POSITION REVIEWED. The Auckland branch of the Transport Workers' Advisory Board, to which body the railway men are affiliated, hcid a meet ing last night for the purpose of discussing the position with relation to the railway . strike. Tl.c situation was fully rented, and it was decided that the full support of all the other sections of transjv -t workers be g'iven to the railwaymen in any manner desired to bring about a satisfactory settlement of their dispute. Allegations have been made by the strikers that telegraph have been tampered with, or that at lenst undue delay occurred in delivery. Tho Department scouts the idea, pointing out that such interference would require the connivance of many public servants.
