I {THE AUCKLAND BALLOT. ■ — MAJORITY FOR A STRIKE. RESULT SENT TO EXECUTIVE. :• A ballol ww taken yesterday by the Auckland branch of tho Railway Officers' Institute on the question as to whether they should strike in sympathy tvith the othw two railway unions. The men were nob of course aware at tins stage that an agreement had been reached in Wellington between the Amalgamated Society of -.Railway Servants and tho jfrime Minister. The result of the ballot was communicated to » meeting of the branch, last evening, and at the conclusion the secretary Mr. 0. R. Bell, stated time it had been decided to make no announcement to tho press. From an authoritative source, however, it is learned that a largo majority of the men Toted in favour of a strike. It is believed that the voting papers showed:— lor a strike, 127; against, 6?. The result is being sent to the executive Of the institute in Wellington. The following resolutions have been passed by tho local branch of the New Zealand Railwey Officers' Institute :- -That- this meeting of members of the Wellington branch of the Railway Officers Institute affirms that it has absolutely no confidence in tho present management a staff administration, and we call upon the Government to take steps whereby a more up-to-date staff shall be ensured, which, •while protecting tbo interest* of tho IKminion, shall also advance and ensure the individual tights of the railway employees. Furth*r,.ve are strongly of opinion thai had this been done in the past the present, Strike would not have eventuated.
