INFLUX OF ASIATICS.

WATERSIDE WORKERS' PROTEST.

The influx of Asiatics into Auckland •was discussed at a meeting attended by 1200 -waterside workers daring lunch boar yesterday. It was stated that every passenger steamer, that arrived from Sydney and Vancouver brought either Chinese or Hindoos, and very often both. The meeting adopted a resolution expressing alarm at the continued influx of Hindoos and Chinese, and voicing the opinion that a halt should be called, on the grounds That the influx of Asiatics could have only one ending, namely, the lowering of the standard of living of the workers : that the fusion of Asiatics and whites would impair the purity of the race; and that Asiatics entered into unfair competition with whites in trades and callings. The resolution affirmed that if immigration is permitted preference should be given to people of British origin. Th« resolution also " condemned the Government for its fai'ure to cope with this serious menace," and declared in favour of a white New Zealand.
