ACCIDENT AT AUCKLAND.

EARLY MORNING COLLISION.

A train accident during shunting operations at the Auckland railway station at 1.30 yesterday morning resulted in a luggage van being wrecked and a passenger carriage partially telescoped, while some damage was also done to the station platform. A mixed goods train, which wa being shnnte'd into position, ran into a passenger train drawn up alongside No. 3 platform. The impetus dashed the luggage van of the passenger train against a large concrete " -block," which it dislodged, while the obstacle forced the van up, damaging the roof of the platform. A passenger car next to the van was derailed, considerable damage being done to it. The work of clearing away the wreckage occupied some hours.
