J An old resident of the Auckland distri^. j Mrs. R. Cutforlh, died at Wna.ng;irti on • Saturday last, in her 60th year, Mrs, J J Cutforth, was born at. Cambridge, Engj land, in 1840, and canii out in the I sailing ship Hanover in 1&52. Another . j vessel, the Matilda W&ttenbich, sailed on »| the same day, these being the first two • i ships to convey passengers to form t^e i 1 Nonconformist special settlement at Port 5} Albert. The deceased married Mr. Richard I Cutforth, a fellow passenger on the Hasover, on July. 10, 1863, theirs being the i first marriage ceremony in the Port Albert ; district. Their golden wedding was ce'ebrated at Whangarei on July 10, 1313 . Mrs. Cutforth was an accomplished mufi- > cian, and at one period was pianist to the ,! Port Albert Philharmonic Society—a body i ! that possessed considerable musical talent 1 ; Even within three dajs of her death Mrs' i! Cutforth played a pianoforte duet with a ! young friend. Of a family of 12 children, ' i six sons and four daughters are Krine.' ! There are also 32 graad-chi'dren and three '. great grand-children. The funeral took 1 place at th€ Kit'-nikan cemetery, Kamo. ' on Monday afternoon.
