TRAINING SCHOOL CADETS.
QUESTION OF CONTROL DISCUSSED.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The military training of school cadets
was discussed at the Educational Conference to-day. Mr. R. J. Foss moved that the institute affirm the principle that the Education Department should control all classes of pupils held during school hours. The remit contained a reference to the military training of cadets in schools. Under the present regulations pupils in schools come under the control of officials of the Defence Department, and boys attend: _• drill can be i marked absent from schoo The general opinion voiced by delegates; was, though representatives of the Defence ' Department had power to call out pupils ; in secondary departments of the schools, : as a rule the power was not exercised with- i out. consideration. It was agrefd that due j notice of the time of drills should be given, 1 so that arrangements might be marie be- \ forehand. With the time table boys j attending drill cannot legally be marked ' present at school. The remit was adopted.
