The weather was dull, but the wicket was A in fair order though slightly dead. * Each side had completed an innings on Thursday, the visitors having compiled 222 runs and the Grammar School 109, ' £ leaving the latter with a deficit of 113. . | a Palmerston North High School started , b the second innings on * rather tricky t wicket, and lost the four first wicked for 32 runs. A useful partnership be-1 tween Tovey and M. Hodder carried the « score to 65 before the latter was dismissed for a carefully played 24. The remaining J batsmen were disposed of cheaply, me ± innings realising 96 runs, of which 13 . were extras. This left Grammar School with 209 runs ■ to get in the second innings to equal the ! c visitors' aggregate of 318. Badeley and j Goodacre were the opening; batsmen, and j both were dismissed with the total at two j runs. Postles and Dunning then became c associated, and by sound cricket carried v the score to 127 before •filing "was dismissed by a catch at point. Interest in the game had been worked up to a high pitch by the fine third wicket partnership, and the ■Grammar School's prospects of retaining the coveted shield were bright. Postles continued to play very sound cricket, but the remaining batsmen failed to rise to the occasion, and the side was , ! dismissed for a total of 186, Postles carrying his bat for the fine score of 94 runs. After the conclusion of the game the shield was presented to M. Hodder, captain of the visiting team, by Mr. E. C. Beale.
