WEATHER IN AUCKLAND.

— «»- . LIGHT SHOWERS YESTERDAY. GOOD FALL ON WAIHI PLAINS. Light rain commenced to fall about two o'clock yesterday morning, and occasional showers fell throughout the morning, with one or two in the afternoon. The total fall for the 24 hours ended midnight, as registered by the Herald gauge, was .31in. The Paeroa correspondent of the Hfrat.d telegraphed yesterday that the weather during the last few days has been hot and oppressive, with a northerly wind and occasional light showers. The rain has not been heavy enough to benefit the land, and has not interfered with haymaking. The district is beginning to feel severely the effects of the long dry spell, although not so much as some of the surrounding localities, where the soil is lighter. A telegram received last evening from the Waihi correspondent of the Herald stated—Welcome rains have fallen in and about Waihi during the last 24 hours. The Waihi Plains, which were becoming somewhat parched, will benefit materially. -The following . weather forecast was issued by Mr. Clement L. Wragge at eight o'clock last evening:—"The disturbance named Begoas is still off the West Coast. It has increased in energy and is j producing the light rainfall. Further un- / settled and moist weather is likely, with winds from between north-west and south-south-west. The atmosphere over the eastern portion of the Tasman Sea is considerably upset, and electric disturbance is not improbable."
