When the Chamber of Deputies resumed its sittings after the strike proclamation, the Socialist deputies protested against beatings they had received during the street demonstrations. The city walls were placarded with manifestos eulogising Bolshevism and imploring the workers to act? without delay in supporting their Russian brethren. The President invited the Socialists to take the oath. They comformed individually, with reservations, for instance: "I swear, but falsely."
