CHOICE BEFORE PEERESS. INVITED TO CONTEST SEAT. Times. LONDON. Dec. 3. The Ashton-under-Lyme Conservative Union has invited Lady Beaverbrook to contest the constituency, rendered vacant by the re- ! tirement of Sir Albert Stanley. Lady Beaverbrook is the mother of three I children and she says she is uni willing to abandon the nursery for the House of Commons, but it is expected that she will consent to contest the seat. I>ady Beaverbrook is the wife of Lord Beaverbrook, who was official "eye-wit-ness" in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the early part of the war. Before his elevation to the peerage, Lord Beaverbrook wag Unionist M.P. for Ashton-under-Lyme, and in 1918 he entered the Cabinet as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister of Information. Beaverbrook, like her husband, is a Canadian. At the General Election in December, 1918, Sir Albert Stanley (Coalition Unionist) was returned for Ashton-under-Lyme, polling 10,260 votes against 7534 polled oy his Socialist opponent.
