A PREHISTORIC monster
REPORTED IN THE CONGO. RETURNED HUNTER'S STORY. (Received 10.30 p.m.) Renter. CAPETOWN. Deo. 5. News has been received from Elizabefchville, in the Belgian Congo, apparently corroborating reports of the existence of the prehistoric monster, the Brontasaurus. The expedition from the Smithsonian Institute, ! which was recently involved in a i railway accident in the Congo, has ;been sent out to search for this
monster. A Belgian hunter, named Gapelle, | who has returned from the interior of the Congo, states that he followed a strange spoor for 12 miles, and sighted a beast which was certainly of the rhinoceros order. It had large scales reaching far down, a very thick tail like that of the kangaroo, a horned snout, and a hump back. He fired shots at the monster, which threw up its head and disappeared into a swamp.
