PROHIBITION FOR SAMOA.

PROTESTS BY RESIDENTS. [BY. TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. A petition, with 130 signatures, including soldiers, Civil servants, Germans, and Samoans, was drawn up at a public meeting at Apia on October 31, emphatically protesting against the proh.bition of l.quor by proclamation. The natives, it is stated, have prohibition by their own wish, but the white people object to being included. The petitioners hint that prohibition will mean extraction of toddy from the cocoanut palm, which has proved a curse in other places.
