A special representative of the Sydney Daily Telegraph, who is visiting the drought-strickeir areas, supplies gloomy reports of rapidly disappearing feed and water. Where stock has not been driven off' the runs, owners are adopting all sorts of expedients to save their fast-diminish-ing flocks and herds. The late rains relieved the situation to a very small extent. REPORTS IN BRITAIN. ALARMIST ACCOUNTS DENIED. • A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Nov. 26. ' Dissatisfaction was expressed in the House of Assembly yesterday at the probable evil effects of the alleged alarmist [ ! cables regarding the drought in New ■ South Wales dispatched from Sydney and i published in the English papers. Mr. W. A. Holman, the State Premier, said I j it was a pity that the English papers i I should take the reports of Australian con- , i ditions from a gentleman who apparently . i never went farther than the office win- > j dow. He had cabled to Sir C. G. Wade, I Agent-General, to deny the statements, ; . and had sent official statements showing , ! the actual measure of damage caused by the drought. In regard to complaints that though the market is over-glutted with stock from drought areas, the price of meat remains very high. It is explained that this class _, of stock is unsuited to the city demand. i The canning companies are reaping the j benefit, and are able to purchase mutton as low as 2jd a pound.
