CAPT. ELLIS' CAREER.
WIDE EXPERIENCE OF WORK

WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
The Director of Forestry, Captain L. M. Ellis, whose appointment was announced yesterday, graduated with honours at the Forestry School of the Toronto University in 1911, as Bachelor of Science in forestry. Though a young man he has had experience in Canada, the United States, France, and ScotlandHis, present post is that of advisory oiucer to the Board of Agriculture, Scotland. He has been highiy recommended by Mr. B. L. Robinson, chief of the British Department of Forestry, and by Lord Lovat, who, during the war, was the chief official in connection with timber control in Great Britain, and is also a well-known forester. Mr. Robinson, it may be mentioned, was a South Australia'! Rhodes scholar, who completed his training at the Forestry School of the Oxford University under Professor Sir William Schlich.
The Forestry School of the Toronto University has a very high standing, and was for many years under the control of Dr. B. E. Farnow, who is now professor of forestry at the Cornell University. Toronto has produced several well-known forest experts, among whom is .ur. H. R. Macmillan, who made a special tour of Australia on behalf of the Canadian Government in 1914-
Captain Ellis is expected to arrive in New- Zealand towards the end of February.
