SUPPLIES OF COAL.

TWO SHIPLOADS DUE TO-DAY. CARGOES APPROXIMATE 7000 TONS. Approximately 7000 tons of coal are due at Auckland to-day. Both vessels carrying this cargo are from Newcastle. The Waipori, due at 8 a.m., has about 2600 tons, and the large American barquentine E. R. Sterling, which passed Cape Brett at mid-day yesterday, is due this morning with about 4400 tons. SHORTAGE AT HAMILTON. GASWORKS STOCKS DEPLETED. [BY TELEGRAPHOWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Wednesday. The gasworks engineer to the Hamilton Borough Council reported to the meeting of the council to-night that he was greatly hand.capped by the shortage of coal. He stated that at the beginning of August he had 327 tons of hard coal in stock, but lie had only 50 tons now, and if it had not been lor the Blue water gas plant the gas supply would have given out long ago. Mr. J. McKinnon said the position was worse now than at the trine the report was prepared. The engineer was using 25 tons per week, and he hud only 50 tons in hand and a promise of 75 tons out of a cargo of 3COO tons due shortly. The 75 tons would probably arrive when only 25 tons remained. He thought that to light a town they ought to get more than 75 tons out of a 3000 ton cargo, and he suggested that he and the Mayor should interview the firm supplying the coal with a view to obtaining more. The suggestion was adopted.
