TRADE WITH CANADA.

In pursuance of its policy of fostering the external trade of Canada, the Dominion Government some months ago recalled its overseas trade commissioners to discuss plans for the development of markets for Canadian goods. A cable message published to-day indicates that Mr. Beddoe, Canada's representative in New Zealand, is returning, confirmed in his mission of expanding the commerce between the two dominions. Mr. Beddoe stated in Vancouver that Canadian producers are determined to secure a larger share of the New Zealand markets. -Their desire should receive a cordial response. In matters of trade, Canada and New Zealand are rivals only in their enthusiasm for Imperial preference, and the development of trade between them is wholly advantageous to both. During last year, New Zealand exports to Canada were valued at £1,793,623, and her imports at £930,964, so that there is room for a considerable increase in the Canadian producers' share of the New Zealand markets. They are in a position to supply many goods which are now being drawn from the United States and the East, and no opportunity should be neglected which will enable New Zealand to restore to the Empire that portion of her trade which war conditions have diverted to other countries.
