The Prime Minister arrived in Christchurch this morning, and received a large ; deputation from the Progress League concerning Canterbury affairs. Mr. Massey sfcted that the Government desired the speedy completion of the Otira tunnel, and would do everything possible in that direction. A new railway timetable was in preparation, which would give considerable improvements in the ' Canterbury services. Work on the South Island Main Trunk railway would be proceeded with. The difficulty was that there was not sufficient labour in the Dominica to carry on the public works that ougtS to be proceeded with energetically. Mr. Massey left by the express for Temuka, where he delivered an address this evening.
