KNOCKED DOWN BY TAXI.

QUEEN STREET MISHAP.

A married man, Mr. Joseph Gunn, aged 48, who resides in Hobson Street, was admitted to the hospital at about 6.30 p.m. on Saturday, suffering from abrasions and shock, the result of being knocked down by a taxi-cab in Queen Street, about half an hour earlier. According to the police report, the driver of the taxi-cab, Mr. W. G. Rae, of Somers Street, Ponsonby, stated that while driving down Queen Street he saw the injured man standing on the kerb in the vicinity of bwanson Street. Taking no apparent notice of the approaching vehicle, he commenced to cross the street. The driver sounded hie horn and swerved to the right, but in doing so caught the pedestrian on the mud-guard, knocking him down unconscious. The driver stormed, placed the injured man in his car, and drove him to the hospital. His condition last evening was reported to be improving.
