ACCOUNTANT'S SAD END.
EXPIRES IN A HOTEL.
FOUND ILL IN THE STREET
A sudden death occurred in the Metropolitan Hotel, Queen Street, at about 3 p.m. on Saturday, the victim being a married man, Mr. Charles Mackie, whose home wae in Whangarei. He was a returned soldier.
The deceased was discovered by PoliceSeijjjeant Brown, sitting in a dazed condition in the street outside the hotel. He was assisted inside, and succeeded in reaching the lounge on the second floor. He then collapsed. Dr. Horton was called at once, but death had occurred about two minutes before his arrival. It is understood that the deceased -was employed as an accountant with the New Zealand Home Builders' Society. An inquest will be held this morning. A vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. Mackie was carried by the executive of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association yesterday afternoon. It was mentioned that the late Mr. Mackie had taken a very keen interest in this association at the time of its formation. The expression of sympathy was carried, the members standing.
