POST OFFICE BONUS.

! QUESTION OF PAYMENT. [BY telegraph.— reporter.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. The matter of the bonus payable to post and telegraph officers was made the subject oil a question put by the Leader of the Opposition, Sir Joseph Ward, to the Postmaster-General, Hon. J. G. Coates, in the House of Representatives this afternoon. .Sir Joseph said the bonus payable before he left office was provided for a period of twelve months. He had assured the officers of the service that this; was the position, and, moreover, the Cabinet had approved the payment. He was now informed that the bonus for six months only had been paid. There was definite authority for the payment for twelve months. He asked that the matter should be looked into, as it appeared that a breach of faith had been committed.

Mr. Coates said he would be very glad to look into the matter. He was not at present conversant with the facts, but would investigate.
