PEACE THANKSGIVING.
UNITED SERVICE AT SAMOA. In conformity with the Proclamation of His Majesty the King ordaining Sunday, July 6, as a Day of Thanksgiving for Peace, a special combined service of thanksgiving, to which the members of all religious denominations were invited, was held at Matatitu on Sunday morning last, says the Samoan Times, of July 12. The Earl and Countess of Liverpool and the Viceregal party, with Colonel Tate, the Administrator, were present, and the service was observed as a parade for officers and men of the Garrison and members of the Samoan Reserve Force. A marquee, capable of holding over 500 people, was erected for the occasion alongside the native church. , The seating accommodation of this improvised structure was fully taken up, besides which many natives squatted on the grass, sheltered from „he sun by a rough and ready roofing of palm leaves ersctea in the Samoan style. Alongside the open marquee were many persons who were unable to obtain a seat.
At the conclusion of the service the troops were drawn up for inspection by His Excellency the Governor-General, after which they marched to barracks headed by the Vaimoso and Apia Bands, who played spirited airs along the route.
