WELLINGTON INSTALLATION. [B? TELEGBAPH. OWK COBBESPOKDKNT.J WELLINGTON, Saturday. The installation of automatic telephones of the Western Electric type in certain ! portions of Wellington city and suburbs is now being proceeded with. These comprise a first instalment of the saw automatic system -which, will eventually be established over the whole city and suburbs. The initial instalment involves the opening of automatic branch telephone exchanges aft Courtenay Place and Newtown, which, it is expected, will .eventuate about, the end of September. Until the while of Wellington is changed over to this'ay seem the branch exchanges at Courtenay Place and Newtown will work in . conjunction with the existing .manual system. ; The opening of these two bracsh exchanges has been held in abeyance for a considerable time 0n... account of the non-arrival of essential portions 5 of ■'■ the .apparatus.
