CHANGEABLE WEATHER
VARYING WINDS AND RAIN* CONDITIONS BAD IN SOUTH. BETTER PROSPECTS FOR, NORTH. The weather at Auckland over the -weekend was' very changeable and, at times, boisterous. Rain, fell in light showers at various intervals, their occurrence being more frequent yesterday than on Saturday. The -wind, which had been from the eastward during the previous part of the week, changed to the westward and at times blew strongly from that direction. The barometer is fairly low, and is showing very little movement. It rose to 29.70 in by noon on Saturday and remained practically steady st that reading up to a late hour. The rain for the 48 hours' ending midnight, as registered by the TTbrat.T) gauge, was- .17in. The following forecast was issued by Mr. Clement L. Wragge at 8 p.m. yesterday: - The atmosphere is in a most disturbed condition ov6r the entire country, especially so over south Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. In thai region the disturbances Hebalon and Lupita appear to have joined forces, so that heavy snow, sleet, hail, and rain squalls are highly probable, with flooding of rivers south from latitude 44 degrees. Intermittent rain squalls are likely over the North Island and Auckland province, but a marked improvement should shortly obtain in those parts. Winds between N.W., W., and S.W. Rough" seas on West Coast, especially south from New Plymouth, and, also between Stewart Island and Akaroa Peninsula electric disturbances generally, especially in the South.
