REFUSAL TO WORK CARGO.
JOAN, CRAIG AT GREYMQUTH. OBJECTION TO NON-UNION CREW. The Joan Craig, the vessel delayed at G;wynionth, owing to the refnsal of the waterside workers to handle her cargo, is the Australian, steamer of that name. She took a cargo of coal and timber from an Australian port for Wanganui and Greymouth. On the arrival of the steamer Inga at Wanganui the waterside workers there discovered that both vessels were carrying a non-unionist crow. Their discovery "was not made until all the coal had been discharged from the Joan Craig, but they refused to touch the coal cargo in the Inga. The Joan Craig was then despatched to Greymouth to discharge her hardwood timber for that port, but the waterside workers there refused to handle the cargo, and it is being discharged by the steamer's crew. The Inga is in a worse position at Wanganui, as the waterside workers have refused to work her coal, and the crew which brought the steamer from Australia has left the vessel.
A third vessel arrived at a New Zealand port with a non-unionist crew, but the fact was probably not known, as she discharged her cargo of coal, loaded a full cargo from New Zealand, and sailed without any trouble.
