SKULL FRACTURED BY FALL.

RESULT OF HEMORRHAGE.

The death of Thomas HaJloran, wharf labourer, aged 38, which occurred at the hospital on , Saturday night following a fall in Lorne Street, was the subject of an inquest before the coroner, Mr. J. & Wilson, S.M., yesterday. John Hargieaves, a miner, said that about two o clock on Saturday afternoon ho saw deceased staggering along Lome Street, when suddenly he fell, the back of his head sinking tho footpath. He lay there for soma time, apparently unable to rice. He was assisted to bio feet by some passerß'by and stood against a window-sill. An effort to walk resulted in his falling to the ground again, his" head lying over the edge of the kerbing. H* did not move ag»m. Constable' Arnold' #; Meiklejohn said he found * bruise oh the back of deceased's head. He was.also very pale. Frank Halloran, brother of the deceased, said-he saw him in Queen Street at 1.30 p.m. He understood that his brother had been subject to fits, but when witness Jast saw him alive he was quite normal.

Dr. James F. C. Moore said that on admission to the hospital the deceased was unconscious and had a slight abrasion at the back of the head. The condition of the eyes > indicated internal pressure, and an operation revealed a lame hemorrhage. This, consequent upon shock and a fracture of the skull, was, in his opinion, the cause of death. The coroner returned a finding accordingly.
