F. M. B. FISHER COMPETES. LONDON, April 12. In the Queen's Covered Court championships the open singles, third round, Gerald Patterson (Victoria) beat Mr. F. M. B. Fisher (New Zealand), 7-3, 6-2, 6—3. The winner gave a brilliant, hardhitting exhibition. A titanic struggle, the result causing the greatest surprise, was the victory of F. if. B. Fisher and Major Arthur Low over S. Patt-raon and R. V. Thomas. The latter had won two sets to nil, and despite that they he'd the commanding position, their opponents (managed to make the score two sets all. A terrific fight ensued when the victors led 5—2 in the fifth set, which subsequently was fin'ehed at 10—8. A sect : on of the press hails Patterson (formerly of Victoria) as the new lawn tennis star. Tho Daily Expiess compares him with Brookes, and the Sketch says he is prssibiy a coming world's champion. Patterson has replied accepting Norman Brookes'a invitation to play together for the chamnipr'ship at the Queen's Cup meeting at Wimbledon in June. Pa-toraon Is a son of Mr. T. Patterson, a well-known auctioneer of Kew, Melbourne, and a nephew of Madame Melba.
