BUTTER FOR LOOAL NEEDS.
MEASURES TO INSURE SUPPLIES. A notic was published in a special Gazette issued on April 17 stating that " it appears that all butter, being the manufacture of the season commencing on August 1, 1918, and ending on July 31, 1919, and not already in the grading stores, together with a certain proportion of the butter already in the grading stores, is required for local consumption within New Zealand," and is therefore not " exportable surplus" within the meaning of the contract for the purchase of the season's exportable surplus on bohalf of the Imperial Government. The Department of Imperial Government Supplies, therefore, announces that no butter of a quality fit for local consumption will be purihnsed for the Imperial Government unless it was in the grading stores on April 17, and of that in store, upon which no advance had previously been paid, none will be purchased except such proportion as the Controller of the Department considers is not required for local consumption.
