CLEANING LACE CURTAINS.
I<ace, net, or muslin curtains can be got up at home quite easily, thus saving not only expense, but wear and tear. Shake them out well in the open air, then put them to soak in rain or softened | water for a night. In the morning gently . work the curtains up and down with the ! hands, then squeeze them, throw the dirty I water away and rinse them through warm | water. Now have a soap lather prej pared, made by shaving a cake of white , soap and pouring over it a quart of boilj ing water, then whisk it like an egg until a.l the soap is dissolved. \ Now douse the curtains up and down | in relays of soapy water; do not wring ' them at all, but squeeze them gently mow I and again under the water. When the J curtains are clean rinse in clean tepid | water, adding a little blue for white cur- •' tains and a little strong coffee for cream. ; Put them through the machine wrapped i in a clean cloth, then give them a final j rinse in hot starch. Instead of drying them by hanging them j on the line, take a large clothes-horse and I pin the curtains on to it with drawing- | pins, point by point to the - top of it. I treated in this way, the curtains dry in ! shape, and need not be ironed. The j clothes-horse can be put outside if Sne or m trout of the fire if wet, and the curj tains left on it until dry. If there are I several curtains to be dried the kitchen door can be used also for the pinning— taking care to cover it first of all with a clean cloth— the floor of a room that is little used. This plan saves much an- | noyance, fcr the curtains dry perfectly in shape and look like new.
