CLUB FOR SOLDIERS.

EARLY START WITH WORK. FINANCIAL POSITION. "A permanent residential club is within sight," said Mr. A. A. Donald at last evening's meeting of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. " The building will probably be commenced in two or three weeks." (Applause.) Mr. Donald stated that the club, which waß to contain 60 or 80 bedrooms, would be erected on Anzac Avenue, off Beach Road, on a site which tho City Council had provided at a rental of Is a year. The Women's Patriotic League had donated £14,000 toward the cost of the club, which would be controlled by a board, comprising three representatives of the Women's Patriotic League, three of tho Returned Soldiers' Association, and two of the Patriotic Association. Mr. Donald said the probable annual deficit in running tho club would be £700 to £1000, which the Patriotic Association would pay. The Returned Soldiers' Association held £1103 in its building fund, which would go toward the cost, but another £1000 was wanted. " Will you give this sum out of your present credit of £2300?" asked the speaker. ( After some discussion the meeting decided to refer the matter to the committee for a report, to be presented at a subsequent meeting. The general attitude of members was in favour of voting the sum. but it was urged that on principle it would hardly be fair to the new committee to vote the sum until that board had considered the financial position.
