AUCKLAND CLUB.

CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT, The . Auckland Golf Club's provincial championship 'tournament was commenced on the Middlemora links on Saturday. The links, notwithstanding the recent spell of dry weather, were in good order. The tournament is the first played by the club since the outbreak oi hostilities, and the feature of the programme is the Auckland provincial amateur championship. For this competition there were 67 entrants, and a qualifying round to select the 16 contestants allowed, was played on Saturday. The entrants include men from Hamilton, Cambridge, and Palmerston, besides members of other Auckland dubs. The first round of the championship will be played this morning over 18 holes, match play, the second round to be played in the. afternoon. For those who failed to qualify on Saturday there will be a bogey handicap in the morning and a four-ball (best ball) bogey handicap in the afternoon. The semi-fini.l of the championship is to be played to-morrow morning, and the finals in the afternoon. A medal handicap in the morning and a bogey handicap in the afternoon are also to be played.. Continuous putting competitions are provided for those who have not entered for the tournament. Messrs. H. P. Richmond. A. A. Martin, E. Horton, J. B. Lusk, and N. R.. Molntoeh are the tournament) committee, with Mr. E. A. Dargaville as secretary.
