DRAINING NORTHERN LANDS.
AN IMPORTANT PROJECT.
The opportunity of viewing the Oma- [ pere Lake and adjacent Crown lands was taken by the Minister for Lands, the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, on his Northern tour this week. Mr. Guthrie states that it has been decided to lower the level of the lake considerably, with a view to unwatering the surrounding Crown lands, and bringing into profitable occupation a considerable area now inundated. The premliminarv survey work would be put in hand as soon as possible. Mr. Guthrie expressed tlio opinion that when completed the scheme would be a great factor in the development and prosperity of the district, as the land reclaimed would be capable of cutting up into comparatively small areas.
