OVERSEAS FREIGHTS.
NEW ZEALAND TO BRITAIN, NO FURTHER REDUCTION, HIGH COMMISSIONER'S ACTION. A reply to the complaint made by th» Auckland Chamber of Commerce on February 7, concern the non-reduction in freight rates from New Zealand to Great Britain, has been received by the chamber from the Acting-Prime Minister. Sir James Allen states that he had communicated with the High Commissioner, Sir Thomas Mackenzie, on the matter, and had received the reply that there By "no connection between outward and homeward freight, governing conditions not being on a comparable basis," "I have been in communication with several steamship companies," the Hich Commissioner states, " and find thai no further reduction in frei"ht« from New Zealand to the United Kingdom are at present, contemplated."
