STANDARDISED FOOTWEAR.
BOARD OF TRADE PROPOSAL. MANUFACTURERS SYMPATHETIC. The question of the standardisation of footwear has been under the consideration of the Board of. Trade, and yesterday the members received a deputation representing Auckland boot manufacturers respecting the proposal. The board submitted a number of samples of boots and shoes i which are proposed to be standardised, and invited criticism and suggestions for improvement. It was eventually arranged that the manufacturers should consider the board's proposals among themselves, and that lie New Zealand executive of the Boot Manufacturers' Association should be consulted before the scheme is put into operation. . , The members of the deputation expressed their sympathy with the proposed scheme. The board explained subsequently that, although the result of the standardisation scheme might not prove to be a decrease in the price of footwear, it would mean that a better quality article would ba secured at the present price of shoddy goods. _____________-»
