HOME RULE FOE IRELAND.

SUPPORT IN AUCKLAND. I RESOLUTION AT IRISH CONCERT. I The movement in favour of Homo Rule for Ireland, baaed upon Mr. Woodrow Wilson's fourteen points, was supported by tho Irish community in Auckland by a resolution passed by the large audience at the Irish concert in the Town Hall last evenin i Mr. M. J. Shechan moved: "That this 1 meeting of New Zealand citizens, mainly ' of Irish descent, is of the opinion that a ' full measure of self-governmont be granted ' to Ireland, in accordance with the ideals 1 expressed by President Wilson, nnd that r copies of the resolution be forwarded to 1 President Wilson, Mr. Lloyd George, Mr. ' W. F. Massey and Sir Joseph .«ard.' 1 Mr. Sheehan referred to the long struggle ' which the Irish had made for tie ngbt 1 of self-determination, and he said that tho ' Irish thought they should share in tho ! national distribution which was going on jat present. Ho quoted the famous four- . teen points of Mr. Wilfion, and contended ' that the principles enunciated applied to the Irish as forcibly as to other peoples. ' The quarrel of tho Irish, he said, was not with the British masses but with tha English ruling classes. In support of his ' point ho instanced the recent retirement of Lord Wimbledon from Ireland because "the chcf secretary ruled Ireland." Mr. • Shechan said that the chief secretary was 1 never an Irishman, and therefore the eov--1 emmont of Ireland was decided by tho ; whim of the British political parties. Ho quoted the following statement, made by ' Mr. Asquith in March of last year:—lf 1 you ask me what I consider the one thing most necessary, and the most urgent, in 1 the interests, not only of Great Britain : ' and Ireland, or of the British Empire, but, 1 of the Allied cause, and the future of tho 1 world. I would say. without one moment's 1 hesitation, ' Reconciliation between Ireland 1 .and England.' " The resolution was carried with applause I and cheers.
