SCHOONER IN TROUBLE.

DAMAGE HONE BY GALE. PUTS IN FOR REPAIRS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PBESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Friday. A strange sailing vessel was sighted off Wellington Heads and signalled for assistance, and was towed into port last evening. The vessel is' the auxiliary schooner Elsie, from Nukualofa, bound for Portland, Oregon, with copra. After clearing the Islands bad weather was encountered, and the vessel suffered damage to her jibboom, and the extent of repairs necessary being too great to assure a safe journey across the Pacific, it was decided to come south for assistance. The passage occupied about 40 days. The Elsie put in at Wellington in May, 1917, in a leaking condition, while on th» voyage from Port Pirie to 'Frisco. It is antic that repairs on the present occasion will occupy about a week.
