ILLEGAL FISHING.

Charges of fishing without licenses and using illegal bait were preferred against William Craig and Samuel C. Snell at Matamata on Friday. Snell was also charged with obstructing the inspects. Craig said he had never even seen a license until he took one out on October 28. after he returned from the fishing expedition, and had fished before. Snell said lie had fished for about three and a-half years and had always taken out licenses—sometimes by the day and the season. With regard to the baft, he said representations had been made by the Tiran Acclimatisation Society to Auckland to have the restrictions as to worm removed. The magistrate fined each man 40s with costs on the charges of fishing without a licensa and using illegal bait.
