SOLDIERS EXERT STEADYING INFLUENCE ON BERLIN.

FIRM STAND TAKEN FOR SUMMONING OF ASSEMBLY. FALSE MOVE DESTROYS INFLUENCE OF EXTREMISTS. Australian and N.Z. (Received 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 20. The Berlin correspondent oi the New York World states that for the past five days Berlin has been filled with returning troops fullyarmed, -who have been in no mood to trifle with the Bolshevik clement. With their support Herr Ebert has been able to take a firm stand for the earliest possible meeting of the Constituent Assembly, which will establish a real democracy. Dr. Liebknecht tried a typical Bolshevik movement at the opening of the National Soldiers' Council, with deplorable results for himself and the Spartacus group. Dr. Liebknecht led about 8000 workmen through the streets to the hall, where the President was making a Epeecb to the body of men elected by the Soldiers' and Workers' Council. When Dr. Liebknecht's delegation took its stand, and Dr. Liebknecht made a strong Bolshevik speech, the meeting broke up. This move seems to have broken Dr. Liebknecht's political chances.
