REE BROTHERS KILLED,

OXE STILL ON SERVICE.

■;■': Second-Lieutenant B. J. Mahoney, who was killed in- an aeroplane accident on September 3, was one of the four sons ,,.pt Mr. and Mrs. C. Mahoney, of Taneatua. At the outbreak of the war he was n. Tonga, and came to New Zealand in time to join the fifth reinforcements. He left as a trooper in the 4th (Waikato) Mounted Rifles, and after serving for some time in Egypt proceeded to GallipolL He served through the closing months of the Peninsula campaign, and later transferred to the 16th (Wftikak*) Infantry. He saw some heavy fighting at the Somme, where he received his sergeant's stripes, and was ' recommended for a commission in the Imperial forces. .'!. He joined the Royal Munster Fusiliers, arid became attached to the Royal Air Force in February last. He was just completing his training as a pilot when he met his death. His youngest bro*her, Ulic, who left With the third reinforcements, was killed at Quins Post, Gallipoli: Another brother, Lance, who left vfith the fifth reinforcements, was killed at Bir-el-Abd, Sinai Peninsula, on August 9, 1916. The eldest brother, Ernest, joined the Queen's .Boys in England in August, 1914, and lav much service in France. He is now a lieutenant in the Royal Inniskilling Fusilier.

FOUR BROTHERS ON SERVICE. Advice has been received,that Lieutenant Francis A. Hinton, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Hinton, of Eureka, Waikato, was killed in an aeroplane accident ' in England on November' 9. The late Lieutenant Hinton, who was 30 years of age, left with the 15th reinforcements, holding the rank of sergeant. While in England he injured his leg, and wag under orders to return to New Zealand, but obtained permission to join the Royal Air Force. He had been nearly two years in the aviation service, . and some time age- obtained the ralk of flight-lieutenant. Three other sons of Mr. and Mrs. Hinton have > seen active service Lieutenant J./ G. Hinton, a Main Body man; Private & H. Hinton, Samoan contingent and fifth reinforce* ments; and Private Ross Hinton, twentyninth reinforuements—each having been wounded. .
