ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE
ACCUSED WOMAN ACQUITTED.
The trial of Mary Jane Moody, charged f with the attempted murder of her hus- | hand, Benjamin W. J. Moody, by shootv ing, took place ot the Supreme Court, 4 Imnedin, last week. Mr. McGregor, * K., acted as Crown Prosecutor, and Mr. C. Scurr defended. The evidence showed that accused and her. hasband had not lived happily together, having been twice separated. On the occasion of the shooting accused went to her husband's house to see a sick child. • Ths husband Waa summoned, and hearing ' big wife's voice in altercation with his ' housekeeper, Miss Medley, feared she was 'l lolPg to assault the latter, and eeized his ?- Tqft and carried her to the gate. During viKth'e straggle accused took a revolver from . under her jacket find fired, the _ bullet striking Moody near the left armpit. . Accused gave evidence on her own behalf. She said that her husband was ■ acting like a madman, assaulted her and higher windpipe, and, fearing for heir life, ? she placed the revolver against his shoulder and fired. Had she wished to 4 ■' kill him she could have placed it against
his heart. ...The jury found a verdict of not guilty, IP- and accused was discharged.
