LANDING OF SOLDIERS.
IMPROVED ARRANGEMENTS. EXPEDITION PROMISED. Several suggested improvements in regard to the arrangements for the landing of returned soldiers have been adopted by the Minister for Defence, as the outcome of representations made last week by the' Mayor of Auckland. Mr. Qunson stated yesterday that he had received a telegram from the Minister assuring him that arrangements were well advanced for having the boarding work and the arrangements to connection with the men's pay and other necessary details on transports carried out with greater despatch. It would be impossible to have the new arrangements completed in time to bring them into practice in connection with the drafts returning at an early date, but in respect to these the Minister had stated that special efforts would be made to liava the work carried out expeditiously. Mr. Gunson added that in view of the experience in regard to the hospital ship which arrived recently in Auckland widespread gratification would be caused by the adoption of the system of having the duties of the Medical Board and the office, work incidental to the return of the troops completed before the vessels reached port.
