ADMISSION OF LOST HOPE,

PEACE BY VICTORY SCOUTED.

COPENHAGEN. Sept. 6.

The Berlin correspondent of the Politiken interviewed Herr Erzeberger, leader of the Catholic Centre party in the Reichstag, who said that it would be a dangerous and criminal mistake for either side to hope to crush the other. It was the annexationists who prolonged the war. A military victory on either side would only lead to an armed armistice. The reason they had not got peace long ago was due to the fact that the German people were afraid of being accused of being defeated. The war could only be finished by the creation of a league of nations, based on certain main points partly accepted by Mr. Woodrow Wilson and Germany in Notes to the Pope.
