MINES IN THE NORTH.

FOUR MORE DESTROYED.

TEN MILES FROM COAST.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

WELLINGTON, Sundty. The naval adviser, Captain Hall-Thomp-son, states that since the last notice was issued four more mines have been discovered and destroyed off the north coast of New Zealand, between the North Cape and Cape Maria van Diemen. The average distance from the coastline is about ten miles The latest discoveries clearly indicate that the mines have often been laid in groups.

The naval adviser announced on June II that mine-sweeping trawlers had located an enemy minefield north of New Zealand, between Cape Maria van Diemen and North Cape, about ten miles from the shore. Two mines, the report stated, had been recovered and destroyed. The first mine discovered in northern waters was washed ashore at the Great Barrier Island on March 11 last. This was believed to be a derelict that had broken away from a minefield.
