THE LATE FATHER DORE.
SOLEMN REQUIEM MASS.
A Solemn Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of the Rev. Father Core, M.C., who died at the Mater Misericordite Hospital on Monday, was celebrated in St. Patrick's Cathedral yesterday morning in the presence of a very large congregation. Bishop Cleary presided, Monsignors Mahoney and Hackett acting as deacons of the throne. The Rev. Father Doolaghty, of Opunake, was celebrant, the Rev. Father Forrestal, curate to the late Father Dore, was deacon, and the Rev. Father Cashman, of Marton, sub-deacon. In tha sanctuary were Monsignor Gillan, the Rev. Father McManus, and the local clergy. Tho choir was under the baton of the Rev. Father Spirings. Mr. Godfried being or« ganist. The Dead March In Saul was impressively played by Mr. Cyril Towsey. A tribute to the memory of the deceased chaplain was paid by the Rev. Father McCarthy, Marisfc Missioncr. He described Father Dore as a man among men, who possessed all the characteristics that made for nobility of character, transparent sincerity, loyalty in friendship, kindliness in word and deed. He spoke of tho chaplain's self-sacrificing work on Gallipoii, about which Father Dore never spoke, what they knew having been told by others. Father Dore had been a saintly priest, his whole life having been governed by a spirit of self-sacrifice. The Defence authorities were represented by the Rev. J. R. Burgh, chaplain to tho foroes, and a number of returned soldiera were present. The body of the late chaplain was conveyed to the Main Trunk express last evening on a gun-carriage, a detachment of the Garrison Artillery and a number of returned soldiers acting as escort. Tha six pall-bearers were returned soldiers, who served on Gallipoii. The intermenb will take place at Fo.xton to-day.
