POST-WAR WOOL SUPPLY

QISBORNE GROWERS' VIEWS. DESIRE TO RESUME CONTROL. [BY TELEGRArH.-rHESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBOENB, Sunday. The proposal that the Imperial Government should purchase the Dominion's wool supply for one year after the cessation of hostilities was objected to at a meeting 'of the Gisborne Woolgrowers Association yesterday afternoon. On the motion Of Mr. W. G. Sberratt the meeting, after hearing the report of Mr. W. D. Lysnar, expressed the opinion that the Imperial Government should requisition wool for three months only after the close of the war, upon the existing terms. The meeting also recorded its opinion that tho 'woolgrowers, having satisfied all Imperial requirements for war purposes below the' actual market values, arfi entitled to resume tho ordinary marketing and control of their wool as soon as possible, subject to any legislation tho imperial or Dominion Governments may impose in order to provide restrictions preventing wool from reaching- enemy or othor countries. . Mr. Lysnar contended that the proposal to requisition wool after the war actually meant that two clips would be sent Home under these conditions. He contended that speculative manufacturers would thus profit at the expense of tho New Zealand woolgrowerß. It was not unpatriotic for the woolgrowers, when hostilities had ceased, to consider their own business interests. By not acceding to tho proposals the people at Home would not be penalised, but the huge profits made by manufacturers, if diverted would 'benefit the Dominion. He said the Minister for Lands had stated that ho would forward tho points against the proposal to Mr. Mousey and Sir Joseph Ward. -When demobilisation took place there would not bo enough wool in the world to provide for the men who again went into mufti and the woolgrowers, by adopting the one-year proposal, would fall into the hands of tho manufacturers, who would com money at the growers' expense.
