HAWKS' BEAKS.

Sir,— hat is the object in maiming | hawks and letting them go again? In Wednesday's Herald we read that at the last meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society "it was reported that the mere capture of the bird and removal of the upper beak is useless," etc. That does not sound very "sporting," does it? The •report reads like wanton cruelty of a quite diabolical order. Why is. the hawk not killed outright when it is captured ? Surely there must be some shadow x>[ a merciful explanation to cover so horrible ! a act. q. C. Thomson-. Bunvood Crescent.
