COMMISSION IN AUCKLAND.
QUESTIONS FOR DECISION.
Thb members of the commission appointed by the Government to inquire into the conditions attending waterside work in the. Dominion arrived in 'Auckland yesterday. The members are: The Hon. T. M; Gilford, Minister for Marine {chairman)/ Messrs. J. Marchbanks, egineer to the Wellington Harbour Board, representing harbour boards, Captain McArihur/representing shipping companies, J. Roberts, and L. Glover, representing the Waterside Workers' Federation. * ■ ; -
The questions remitted to-the commission for determination are :— *
(1) Are existing regulations and methods of inspection of all gear used for loading and discharging of all ships and hulks, and for handling cargo on wharves, sufficient to ensure that all gear is in good, and safe working order? - .. . (2) If not* what provision should be made: (1) In respect of the main ports? (2)r In respect of other ports! (3) What steps can be taken to prevent or minimise accidents to workers engaged in what is known as waterside workf The inquiry will be., opened at the Supreme Court Buildings at ten o'clock this morning-
