IMPROVING THE WAIKATO.
DISTRICT ENGINEER'S REPORT. [BT TELEGRATH. — CORRESPONDENT.]
HAMILTON. Sunday. The executive of the Waikato River Navigation League has been informed by Mr. J. A. Young, M.P., that he has received the following letter from the Minister for Marine :—
" I have to state that I have, as promised, obtained a report from Mr. Murray, Public Works district engineer at Auckland, who estimates the cost of making the necessary widening of the channel of the Waikato River at the Tamahere Narrows at £200. I have also obtained a report as to the cost of widening the river at its junction with the Karapiro Creek, which the district engineer places at £300. Mr. Murray thinks that it is now too late for the works to be done this season, as the water is very cold; and he therefore suggests that they be deferred until next December. The suggestion as "to arranging for having the works carried out is now under consideration."
