COMBINED CRUISING RACE, The final official event of -the yachting and motor-boating 1917-18 season took place on Saturday when the clubs affiliated to the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association held a combined cruising race to Awaroa Bay. About '40 members of the Manukau Yacht and Motor-boat Club ware carried as guests of the Auckland Clubs, a return for the outing recently tendered to Waitemata, yachtsmen by the Manukau Club. The race •was sailed, in ideal weather, over a direct course between a point off the King's Wharf, and Look-out Point at the entrance to Awaroa Bay, a distance of 16$ knots. The yachts all made good time, the wind being off the Quarter until they were' within a short distance of Look-out Point, when it' veered, and they had to beat across the line. A number of.yacnts and launches, in addition to the racing craft, inado the journey and by eight o'clock there were over 50 boats in Awaroa Bay. In the evening the' visitors were entertained at a social and dance in Gordon's Hall. Altogether there were fully 200 yachtsrtion and about. 100 ladies present. The dances were .interspersed with musical and elocutionary items and a number of very enjoyable solos and action choruses were given by tho Originals, a parly of clever amateurs.
