PAY AND ALLOWANCES.
CONSIDERATION BY CABINET. [BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL coebespokbkt.} WELLINGTON. Friday. An inquiry was made in the House of Representatives to-day by Mr. J. An3t«y (Waitaki) whether the Government would give the Second Divison League an iojportunity during this session to renew it« representations regarding military pay and allowances.
The Prime Minister replied that there would not be any legislation regarding soldiers' pay or allowances during the present session. "So far as allowances are concerned," he added, the Government can alter the amount of the allowances at any time it thinks proper by regulation.. I an not going to pledge the Government to increase the separation allowances, but the subject of these separation allowances is under consideration by the Government at'the present time. That is ail I can say just now." The Minister for Defence said he bsd read the statement just issued by the Second Division League. The league had raised some points in connection with homo service men. He admitted that there were anomalies there, and steps were being taken to adjust them. Generally speaking the different grievances urged by, the league were receiving attention.
